Stile Common Junior School

Uniform
After discussion with children, parents, staff and governors, Stile Common Junior School has decided to adopt a school uniform, with effect from September 2003.

Having considered the arguments for and against a uniform we believe that the positive benefits include:

A positive image for the school in the local community.
A reduction in the competition of wearing the latest 'in' brand, for example, and the inappropriate clothing worn to school by some children.
A means of financially assisting our parents in receipt of a clothing grant without undue attention being drawn to those children who wear a uniform.

The School will:
Expect all children to attend school in the agreed colours. These will be either a burgundy or navy sweatshirt, navy or white polo shirt with dark (grey, black or navy) skirt or trousers (shorts or a gingham dress in the school colours could be worn during warmer weather).

Offer for sale the range of tops in the school colours bearing the school logo. Clothes from alternative sources not bearing the school logo, plain and in the school colours will be equally acceptable. There is no requirement for children to wear any particular colour or type of shoe, though sensible footwear will obviously be expected. Shoes and boots should not have high heels as these are very dangerous in the school play ground and on wet floors. We request that, especially during winter and wet weather children bring a change of footwear both for their own comfort and to help keep the hall and classroom floors mud-free.

Make available in school a range of spare uniforms. Any child attending school in clothes other than the agreed uniform will be asked to change into these. However, this is an emergency measure only and parents will be expected to arrange for their children to have their own uniform.

Make the school policy on uniform clear to prospective pupils and their parents through transfer meetings and procedures and through the school prospectus.

Notes:
It is our belief that the adoption of a school uniform as outlined above will, with the co-operation of the children and their parents, represent a positive improvement to our school.

Our uniform, with a logo, can be bought from Term Time Wear (TTW) on St Johns Road in Huddersfield (opposite the turning for Tesco).

All clothing should be named. Unclaimed lost property will be cleared from the school every half-term; children should ask their teachers if anything is misplaced.

Please also make sure your child brings a PE kit to school, many think if they are already wearing a polo shirt they do not need to change. This is not acceptable and any that do so will be asked to change. A spare pair of trainers or pumps are needed for outdoor games.
